Mastering iPhone Photography: A Course Summary With Pro Photographer Holly Jansen
Embark on a captivating journey into the world of iPhone photography with the guidance of expert photographer, Holly Jansen.
Over the course of three weeks, Holly will unveil a multitude of tips, tricks, and techniques using various shooting and editing apps, empowering you to elevate your photography skills to new heights. Delve into the art of capturing mesmerizing landscapes, dynamic long exposures, stunning skies, immersive panoramas, and more.
Under Holly's mentorship, you will explore seamless blending and multi-layering methods, enabling you to craft a unique artistic vision for your photographs. These innovative photographic processes can be seamlessly integrated into your workflow, allowing you to unleash your creativity in just a matter of minutes.
ONLINE LEARNING
Video and text instruction on the iPhone features and everything you need to know about the recommended apps. Students have access to course content for 60 days.
LIVE INSTRUCTION
During the course there will be 2 live Zoom sessions with the instructor to answer questions, watch live demonstrations, and get feedback.
INSTRUCTOR SUPPORT
During the course you can reach out to connect with the instructor, getting immediate support and feedback on assignments for each section.
Course Outline
In the first week you will learn how to use the native iPhone camera and set up the various processing apps to learn the basics of iPhone Photography. We will talk about editing apps to crop, rotate, frame and even grunge your images. We will discuss the various capabilities of the apps and when to use them.
Week 2: Vintage Apps and Editing Apps
This week we will be introducing you to some fun vintage apps that have a variety of “lenses” and “films”. We will show you a few ‘just for fun’ techniques to mix things up and show you the essential editing techniques to make your pictures pop. Then, we will show you how to add frames of varying sizes and colors to your images.
Week 3: Bringing it All Together
On our final week we will talk about blending modes and watercolor apps, the more advanced techniques in iPhoneography. We will also be talking about other apps that will continue to inspire your creativity with the iPhone and the importance of watermarking your images online.
Course Requirements
- Current iPhone or earlier model, or an iPad. Some apps work differently on various models. All models welcome!
- Ability and willingness to purchase required apps. Some are free, others priced under $20, some require a yearly subscription. There are approximately 10 apps used in class. You aren’t required to purchase the apps if you don’t want to use them. Many apps have a free version that you can try before you buy.
- Desire to learn and have fun!

Your Instructor Holly Jansen
Holly Jansen has a life long passion for photography.
Since she was a little girl, Holly has been exploring her fascination with light through photography since her family attended workshops with Ansel Adams in Yosemite Valley.
Holly honed her skills through years of traveling the world and photographing natural landscapes displaying her work along with her husband, Mark Jansen, in galleries and art shows throughout Southern California. She has been teaching landscape photography and digital editing workshops throughout the American West and Iceland since 2006.
Currently, Holly offers online and Zoom workshops in Lightroom Classic, Adobe Lightroom, iPhone photography, and digital SLR and mirrorless camera functions.
Holly mentors private photography clients in Southern California where she lives.
